After quitting his job, photographer and artist Kien Lam took a trip around the world. Over the course of a year, he visited 17 countries and took 6,237 photographs. Wanting to share his epic journey with others, Lam put his photos together to create a kind of time-lapse video that has enthralled the Web. - By Mike Krumboltz

This is gonna sound really cliche, but bring your camera with you everywhere you go. I can’t tell you the amount of good photo opportunities I’ve missed because I didn’t have a camera on hand. Also, at least some basic post production is vital to making your images stand out, so I would recommend downloading some simple image editing software to start out with, like iphoto or picasa and working your way up. Most importantly, don’t get discouraged if your photos don’t turn out well in the beginning, they’re only going to get better.
